Shama Sanctuary

Our Mission, Vision, Beliefs and Sacraments

Mission Statement

Shama Sanctuary is a federally recognized, 501(c)(3) sacred medicine church committed to supporting individuals on their personal journey through the intentional use of entheogenic sacraments, integration practices, and community care.

Our mission is to create a safe and structured environment where people can reconnect with themselves, explore inner patterns and parts, and develop a deeper relationship with the divine presence in all of life.

We draw on grounded approaches, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), trauma-informed care, and embodiment practices to support emotional safety, long-term integration, and authentic personal growth.

We honor ancient wisdom while meeting people where they are today. Through ceremony, preparation, and integration, we help individuals reconnect with their inner clarity, agency, and sense of belonging, in themselves and in community.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to build a vibrant and supportive community, both online and in person, where people can connect with themselves, each other, and the sacred.

Through our online platform, we offer regular workshops, integration support, and small group spaces that foster honest dialogue, shared learning, and mutual care. We believe that spiritual growth and personal development are strengthened in community, not in isolation.

Over time, our goal is to establish a physical sanctuary in Asheville, North Carolina. A dedicated space where our values can take root locally. This home will host retreats, trainings, and events focused on personal and spiritual growth.

Alongside sacred medicine work, we'll offer practices like meditation, breathwork, yoga, and holistic wellness to support people on their path in accessible, grounded ways.

Shama is more than a place. It's a container for real transformation, community accountability, and the long-term integration of spiritual experiences into everyday life.

Statement of Beliefs

"No, not half—I am the whole of mankind… Flowers and thorns, darkness as well as light…          Whoever experiences this, I call religious."

— Osho

At Shama Sanctuary, we recognize the full spectrum of human experience, our beauty and our shadow, our capacity for love and our potential for harm.

We believe that the sacred path is not about escape, purity, or perfection, but about integrating the whole self, within a safe, structured, and reverent container.

We hold the following beliefs as part of our collective spiritual path:

We believe that sacred medicines, particularly natural entheogens, can serve as catalysts for personal insight, spiritual connection, and deep reconnection with the divine presence in all of life.

We believe that natural entheogens are holy sacraments. They are received only in ceremony, only by members of Shama Sanctuary, and only for the purpose of deepening our connection with our own inner divinity, with the Great Mystery, Source or God, and with the divinity of all things. Our sacraments are never offered or used for recreational purposes.

We believe that this path is available to all people, regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, background, or religious history. No one is beyond the reach of love, growth, or spiritual belonging.

We believe that entheogens, when approached in a ceremonial and intentional context, have the potential to open access to inner wisdom, spiritual guidance, and deeper layers of the psyche. These experiences can support long-term personal growth when held within a framework of integration and care.

We believe in the importance of grounded support and preparation, including practices such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), parts work, trauma-informed care, nervous system regulation, and embodiment practices. We do not separate spiritual growth from psychological awareness.

We believe that integration is essential. What happens during ceremony is only the beginning. The real work is how we live, relate, and embody the insights that arise.

We believe that love, compassion, accountability, and humility are essential to the path. The sacramental use of entheogens is not about avoiding pain, but about learning how to face life with greater presence and less fear.

We believe that connection to nature is part of the divine relationship. The earth is not a metaphor. It is sacred. Our practices honor and protect it.

We believe that these practices are rooted in ancient traditions, and we strive to approach them with respect for the lineages and Indigenous cultures that have carried them forward.

We believe that death is not the end, and that the spaces accessed in ceremony may touch the same realms we return to when we die. Ceremony can help us meet death, and life, with more peace.

We believe that spiritual awakening does not make us better than others. It calls us into deeper responsibility, service, and love.

We believe that teachings from other religions and traditions can offer wisdom, so long as they reflect the values of compassion, dignity, interconnection, and non-harm.

Our Sacraments

Bufo (5-MeO-DMT), Our Primary Sacrament

Bufo is the sacred medicine of the Sonoran Desert toad (Incilius alvarius, formerly Bufo alvarius), and it is the heart of our ceremonial work. It brings a direct experience of oneness, where the boundaries of the self dissolve and we return to Source. The deepest transformation unfolds afterward, as that experience is integrated into everyday life.

Other Sacred Medicines We Honor

Ayahuasca. A sacred Amazonian brew that opens the way to visions, healing, and spiritual insight.

San Pedro (Huachuma). A sacred Andean cactus that opens the heart and invites deep inner reflection.

Psilocybin Mushrooms. Ancient sacraments that open the mind and spirit to revelation and a sense of unity with all life.

Rapé. A traditional shamanic snuff used to clear the mind, ground the body, and set intention.

Ceremonial Cacao. A heart-opening medicine that deepens meditation and connection.

Kambo. An Amazonian frog medicine honored as a powerful energetic and spiritual cleanser.

Membership

Shama Sanctuary welcomes all who sincerely seek connection with the divine presence in all of life. Before receiving any sacrament, each participant becomes a member by reading this Statement of Beliefs and signing a membership agreement.

In doing so, they affirm that they share these beliefs and come to ceremony for sacred purposes only. Membership is a commitment to approach the sacraments with reverence, honesty, and respect for the guidance of our ministers and facilitators.
